Carlos Augusto Paiva da Silva Martins received his BS in Electrical Engineering in 1989 from the Pontifícia Universidade Católica de Minas Gerais (PUC Minas), Belo Horizonte, Brazil, M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering in 1994 from the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG), Belo Horizonte, Brazil, and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering in 1998 from the Universidade de São Paulo (USP), São Paulo, Brazil.

Throughout his career, Professor Carlos has devoted himself intensely to undergraduate and graduate degrees from PUC Minas. In the late 1990s, Carlos was one of the main agents of transformation in human resources formation in the Department of Computer Science.
